Study Process and Schedule
This Engineering Study, includes a process to inform and involve the public in the improvement planning process, confirms the need for roadway improvements (as identified in previous studies), determines the most suitable alignment for the improvements, estimates cost, and estimates community and environmental impacts. This step is necessary to ensure that transportation improvements are in the best interest of the public, the county utilizes sound engineering practices and transportation planning principles are used during the Study and throughout the overall roadway improvement process.

This Study consists of extensive data collection of existing conditions, including traffic counts, accident data, utilities, soils, hazardous material, land use, cultural, archaeological/historical resources, natural and hydraulic features, and threatened and endangered species information. The Study also included a detailed traffic analysis at the John Young Parkway/Sand Lake Road intersection. Once data collection for these existing conditions is completed, the information will be used in the subsequent technical and environmental analyses and evaluation phases. As part of the Engineering Study process, a Design Criteria Package (DCP) will be assembled with specific criteria and guidelines for the completion of the engineering and construction of the project. This will allow the County to proceed with selecting a design/build contractor team for the project.

Throughout the entire process, there is ongoing public involvement and input from the community, including citizens, business and property owners, elected officials, and other stakeholders within the community. The key is the merging of technical data collection and analysis with dialogue from citizens to produce acceptable and appropriate solutions to transportation demand.
